Western Sydney Boys Literacy & Learning K-12 Lighthouse Project
On 27th April 2004 the Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training Dr Brendan Nelson announced the award to 38 schools
throughout Australia of “Boys Education Lighthouse Grants”. St Andrews College was one of four Catholic Secondary schools across
the country to receive one of these grants of approximately $100,000. (Minister’s Announcement)

The project is exciting because it enables St Andrews College and six of its neighbouring schools to work together in improving
educational outcomes for boys. The schools are:
        · St Andrews Primary School, Marayong         · St Andrews College
        · Marayong Heights Public School                 · St Marys Senior High
        · St Patricks Primary School, Blacktown          · Patrician Brothers College, Blacktown
        · Marayong Public School

The project (see outline)will involve a focus on literacy, on assessment and on knowing what works. There will be a number of sub-
projects
which will use the NQSF (National Quality Schools Framework) to develop and verify the effectiveness of the approaches used.

It builds on work done previously in the seven schools.

There are many other sites that are useful in Boys Education.
